Apple recently released the ColorSync 2.5 upgrade for the Mac OS. Since the Quark CMS XTension(tm) for the Mac OS versions of QuarkXPress(tm) 4.0x use
ColorSync to perform color management tasks, some QuarkXPress users might want to upgrade to the newer version of ColorSync.
However, ColorSync 2.5 changes the location in which its profiles are stored from the Preferences folder into the new "ColorSync Profiles" folder at the
root level of the System Folder. This change will cause Quark CMS not to be able to find the profiles, since they are no longer where it thinks they
should be. You will be prompted with an "Open" dialog box with which to
select the Auxiliary Profiles Folder. Also, when you open a document it will report that profiles used in the document are not installed on your system.
To prevent these messages, you will need to select the new "ColorSync Profiles" folder (within the System Folder) as your Auxiliary Profile
folder, either when the prompt appears at launch, or via the Profile Manager within QuarkXPress 4.0x (Utilities menu). If you have already designated a
custom folder as your Auxiliary Profiles folder, then Quark CMS will continue to find your custom folder and will not need to be instructed of
the new location created by ColorSync 2.5.

There are three different ways you can accomplish Hanging Punctuation (such as a hanging quotation mark) on the left margin.
Use a small Left Indent, and equivalent negative First Line Indent (Style menu -> Formats... -> Formats tab of the Paragraph Attributes dialog box). The amount you'll want to use is the width of your punctuation mark.
Use the Indent Here command (Command-backslash) [Ctrl+backslash] immediately after the quotation marks, before the text. This causes all subsequent lines of text to indent to that point. With 'Invisibles' showing, this symbol looks like a vertical dotted line.
Apply a lot of negative kerning ahead of the quotation mark (between it and the edge of the box), until the quotation mark disappears. Although you can't see it, the mark will still print -- outside (to the left of) the text box's boundary.
Unfortunately, there really isn't a good way to hang punctuation on the right margin.

Many new-to-Windows users of QuarkXPress ask us at QuarkTech how they can type some of the special characters and symbols.
Here's a few of the most common:
Alt+Shift+2 = TM
Alt+Shift+R = Register Mark
Alt+Shift+C = Copyright
Alt+0149 (typed on numeric keypad) = bullet
(...or Alt+Shift+8 = bullet within QuarkXPress only)
Alt+0233 (typed on numeric keypad) = acute accented e
Note that many symbols and accented characters require typing a number; and
that number MUST be typed on the numeric keypad.
You can find these, and all other symbols which are available in your fonts, by accessing Character Map (Start -> Programs -> Accessories). When you open
Character Map, select the desired font, then locate what character you would like to apply and click on it. You will see an enlarged version of what it
looks like. The keystroke is listed at the bottom right of the window. You can memorize the keystroke, or copy and paste the character into your
document.
Most all of the commonly-used symbols and accented characters are available on both platforms -- depending upon the font, of course -- once you know
where to look.

If you use the Adobe Type Reunion utility (ATR) you may have noticed that some of your font menus within QuarkXPress 4.03 are "reunionized" (that is,
the font family members are grouped together under one "parent" name), and some are not. This is not due to a
incompatibility between QuarkXPress 4.03 and ATR.
Adobe Type Reunion performs its job by modifying the standard font menus generated by the Mac OS. Most applications rely upon those standard font
menus when performing font-listing tasks. QuarkXPress uses those standard font menus in some places (e.g., Style menu -> Font, and in the Measurements
palette), but there are two dialog boxes where QuarkXPress creates its own custom font menus. These are the 'Font Usage' and 'Character Attributes'
dialog boxes.
Therefore, since ATR cannot modify the QuarkXPress 4.03 custom menus, ATR cannot
"reunionize" the fonts listed in these two locations only. ATR works just fine in all other font menus within
QuarkXPress.
